The challenge

A new Performance and Operations Support team for Europe needed to decide what it would 'become famous for', and the values and behaviours it would need to succeed.

Why LEGO® Serious Play®

A well-crafted vision is a mental model of a desirable future. At its best it motivates, inspires and aligns individual action behind common goals. LEGO® Serious Play® lets people express that model visually as well as in words, so they say more clearly what they mean and listeners understand more of it. Physical models also let people interrogate each other's ideas more fully, with less interpersonal friction.

What we did

We combined LEGO® Serious Play® with ProMeet wallcharts and gridcards. After a skills build, the team built individual visions, combined them into a shared vision, identified the values needed to achieve it, and finished with personal 90-day plans.

What participants said

In the evaluation, participants described LEGO® Serious Play® as "brilliant, everybody could engage". It "brought learning to life", "equalised everyone in the room" and "disinhibited my mind".

Results

  • A shared team vision
  • Agreed values and behaviours to achieve it
  • A 90-day action plan for every team member

The workshop delivered well above the outcomes expected, due in large part to the innovative methodology Sean applied through Lego Serious Play and the effort taken by Sean to understand our team, our context and our ambition.
