LEGO® Serious Play® for serious work

Strategy, vision, team and systems workshops with LEGO® Serious Play®, designed and led by facilitators who train others in the method: a Master Trainer whose network has trained nearly 3,000 facilitators, and a learning designer who has trained hundreds.

Participants building a shared system model: the agents that affect their vision, and how they connect.

Participants building LEGO models at a workshop table

Why it works

"A remarkably adult way of working"

LEGO® Serious Play® enables better, more memorable conversations and shared understanding. Each person builds a model of their answer, tells its story, and the group builds on each other's meaning. It is a powerful method for building teams, developing strategy and understanding complex systems.

Adrian Crookes, a course leader at the London College of Communication, put it best at the end of a ProMeet workshop: "I thought LEGO® Serious Play® was a remarkably adult way of getting together to discuss issues and problems. Meetings using post-it notes and flip charts seem to infantilise by comparison."

We are facilitators of outcomes, not only LEGO® Serious Play® facilitators. We use the method when it serves your outcome, and combine it with other tools when that serves you better.

Where the method thrives

Four beliefs behind LEGO® Serious Play®

Leaders don't have all the answers

Success requires all voices.

People want to contribute

Letting everyone participate and take ownership creates more sustainable organisations.

Talking is not understanding

Oral and written communication do not equal shared understanding.

The world is complex

Exploring the system consequences of ambition and direction leads to better decisions.

Beyond team building

From individual models to whole systems

Most LEGO® Serious Play® stops at individual and shared models. Our workshops go further: modelling the agents that act on a vision, connecting them into a system, and playing scenarios on it in real time. That is how Ravensbourne's trustees and RIPE NCC's executives tested their strategies.

This systems work is developed further in Sean's 2026 book, The Systems Synergy, and by our sister practice Serious Outcomes.

Questions

LEGO® Serious Play® questions

Short, direct answers about how we work.

Is LEGO® Serious Play® suitable for senior executives?

Yes. Boards, trustees and executive teams are among our most frequent LEGO® Serious Play® clients. Scepticism at the start is normal: Ravensbourne's chairman was unsure at first, and became one of its strongest advocates.

How many people can take part?

From small teams of six to conferences of several hundred. Larger groups work in table groups with a facilitator team.

Can LEGO® Serious Play® be done online?

Yes. Sean wrote ONLINE, the book on facilitating it online, after extensive trials with Zoom and Mural from 2020. See online and hybrid facilitation.

Do you provide the LEGO bricks?

Yes. We bring the materials for in-person workshops and advise on kits for online sessions.

Curious what your team would build?

Tell us the outcome you need and we will tell you honestly whether LEGO® Serious Play® is the right tool.
