The brief and what we did

Academic and timetabling staff modelled the whole timetabling system to see what worked, what did not and what to do better.

Results

  • Five root-cause problems identified
  • Recommendations on teamwork, resources and decision making
  • Better relationships between academics and managers

"A remarkably adult way of working"

Course leader Adrian Crookes said at the end: "I thought LEGO® Serious Play® was a remarkably adult way of getting together to discuss issues and problems. Meetings using post-it notes and flip charts seem to infantilise by comparison." More on why LEGO® Serious Play® works.

How we work

Every assignment starts with a conversation about what needs to happen because of the session. We agree the outcome, turn it into clear objectives, then design the process backwards from there, using the ProMeet method and whichever tools serve the outcome. Read more about meeting facilitation.

Ideas behind this work

London College of Communication: Insight into a complex system
The great thing about Lego Serious Play in this context was that it allowed the group to have an adult conversation about the timetabling system without judgement or blame.
